Reviving your Brow Wiz

What’s this, a blog post, let’s just pretend I was here the whole time.

I recently dyed my hair a bit darker than normal. I normally do lowlights and this time I did a full head dye. So my light blonde eyebrows really disappear this time around. Lately I’ve been using the Sephora brow builder or my elf eye brow palette in light. And while I love both those products they are a bit to light/orangey for my new hair coulor.

So I pulled out my Anastasia brow wiz which I have stopped using because it’s was VERY dried out. I had a thought that. What if I added some castor oil which is known to help hair growth and will also listen up the dried out product.

Keep reading to see how it turned out.

What you will need.

A sad paint pot.

A brush to stir (I needed up using another one to actually mix because it got really messy)

Castor oil (you can find this at the drug store near the diaretics or the rubbing alcohol)

Step one: I dipped my brush into the castor oil and dripped a bit of oil into the pot.

Step two: mix that shit up, until it turns its to a creamy/mousey texture.

Step three: clean up the sides and pack the product back in.

Looks better than new!

I almost forgot what it was like to have Anastasia brows 😍.

***my brows are never perfectly even because one of my brow bones always raises… first world problems

Shh, they are Extensions….

Once upon a time, I was 7 years old and had hair down to my bum… then I started grade 2 and I don’t know if it was my choice or my mom’s, but we chopped it all of. Then a few years pasted (like 10) and the newest look was a bob, and being the trendy person I was I went for it. Since that day I promised I would never cut my hair short again and have been trying to grow it out since then (it’s been 8 years). I have to say that my hair dresser and I have tried really hard to get my hair to where I want it. I do like my hair, and it is long, however, it is thin (thanks MOM!), and kinda just bleh. I curl it most days, either with my wand or curling iron. But it is just not what I want (obviously not Cass, you want mermaid hair).

My hair after my most recent trim.

Oh one other thing… I’m cheap, so fancy extensions are not really in my budget right now… but one thing I have been wanting to try are… wait for it… Secret Extensions.

The commercial for this is so lame and they look like they aren’t going to work, but I watched some reviews online and it didn’t seem to be the worst thing to spend 40 dollars on. The website claims to “give you thick, natural-looking volume and length in seconds!” Most reviews said the same thing, easy to put on, blended pretty well, not the best quality but not horribly noticeable. I have long hair so they blend well, and people say that if you have short hair they work well but I can’t say anything on that.

The other thing they mentioned in a few reviews was that they didn’t curl well, and I have a few things to say about that. If you take out your curling iron and expect to twist it thought and have beautiful curls you wont…. But if you do it like they tell you to do it ( curl with large barrel iron, clip curl and let cool) then it works. It’s not the most beautiful curl but it will blend with your hair enough to give you a curly look. I am still in the process of figuring out if there is a way to create beachy waves with the extensions and I will keep you posted on that.(** I found a way that works really well, tutorial to come soon)

Overall, I think they are kind worth it. I got mine at Walmart for 40$, the colour match is pretty perfect for my hair colour and they are SUPER easy to put in. They are obviously not as good as the 300$ real hair ones but if you are looking for something cheap to give you a long hair look I would recommend them.

Pink Hair, Don’t Care

As I sit here in my kitchen on a Saturday night (when this was written…SHH), I realize that one blog post a week is about all I can handle. I wish I could handle more but life is just too hectic. My goals for this week are a. to not burn out by Tuesday like last week, and b. to post two, that’s right TWO blog posts this week. So here comes number 1!

I did it, after over a year of deliberation I did it… What is it you say??

I dyed my hair pink, well not really dyed but I have pink hair.

How do I have pink hair without dying it you say…. I will tell you! just hold tight.

So around this time last year I started tossing around the idea of putting some pink in my hair, I was hoping to do something like this….

pink-brown-hair

but didn’t have the guts to, instead I decided to do a chunk on the right side of my head.

My hair dresser and I bleached my hair in chunks and then added 3 different colours to get to the desired pink I wanted. It first when orange and then purple then we found a middle ground that was a mix between pink and purple but I was okay with it. My hair dresser suggested I purchase the Revlon NutriColour in pink to keep it vibrant. This stuff is great, you leave it on for a few minutes and then rince it off. All it does is stain your hair by adding colour on top of your hair and not actually altering any of your colour.

So this summer, as always, I got bored and decided to go big or go home (I swear I should change my blog name to this, I feel like I say it once a post), and do the whole thing…

HOWEVER, my hair dressed and I have worked very hard to get my hair to the stage it is at now and I wasn’t ready to bleach my whole head. So instead I went and picked up two different NutriColours, a pinky, purple colour and then the vibrant pink I used last year.

I applied the pinky purple all over my head (be careful it will dye your scalp! so use your conditioner for around your part and face and try not to apply too much in those areas, AND WEAR GLOVES). I then applied the lighter pink at the bottom to create a fade effect (this didn’t really work but I still liked the outcome). I let it sit in my hair for about 8 minutes and this is the results.

 (A little before and after)

I love it, love it, love it! Because my hair is pretty dark the colour doesn’t show to drastically which I like since I’m still  working at school and I need to be professional… In addition the product washes out in 3-5 washes (it says 8-10 but I assume that is for bleached hair), so I normally apply the colour on Friday and then by Monday have washed it at least once so it is not as intense.

I highly recommend this product if you want to jazz up your hair a bit! Obviously the lighter your hair is the better the colour will come through.

What do you guys think??

At Home Shellac Kit Review

This week has been nothing but a shit show. If you read my last post you know that I recently got a job, so this week consisted of training and running around to get all my paper work together. I also bought a bunch of new work clothes which I will be showing off in a post soon. To add to all the madness my best friend broke her arm so I’ve been hanging out with her lots to keep her mind off of it.

With all this being said I know I’ve been doing a lot of nail posts which can get boring I’m sure but this is the last one and well worth it. I will let the video review speak for itself, however, I will mention that last week I tried the french manicure kit and it was AWFUL! long story short, if you are thinking of buying this I still recommend the french kit because you get the top and bottom coat but would could buy those separately because the french kit SUCKS!

Hope you enjoy!

Mini Sephora Haul

Mini, yet expensive, aren’t they always.

I’ve been waiting to go to Sephora for the past week or so and finally went because Other wanted to buy a new iPod and was going to the mall anyways. So as he went and spent $300 on an iPod, I went and spent $80 at Sephora.

I wanted to purchase a eye primer, since I’ve been using a sample for about a week now and I decided it was time to purchase the full size. So I bought the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Eden. I really wanted a primer that acts as a matte base for my shadows. In the past I normally just use Maybelline’s colour tattoo but I’ve been wearing a lot of matte eye shadows lately and I don’t like that the shimmer shines through with that product. I really like the Urban Decay one, my eyeshadow goes on like butter and it stays put all day!

The next thing I need was a brush cleaning solution. I wrote a post on using coconut oil as a brush cleanser a few months ago (see here). Which is great if you want to really deep clean your brushes but I wanted something with less steps that I could use on a weekly basis. The sales associate at Sephora recommended I use the Blenderclenser Solid. I really enjoy this product! It leaves my brushed feeling soft and looking brand new! It also comes with a little pad to help you foam up the cleaning product and you can flip it over to rest your brushes on while they dry.

The last thing I purchased was the Anastasia Brow brush in #12. In the past I have been using a quo brush for both my eye liner and by brow product which meant having to clean it between each use (a royal pain in the ass) and I was just using the spooly on my brow wiz to brush out my brows, however, the spooly recently broke off my brow wiz so I was using a little nubby spooly to brush out my brows. I decided I would invest in a good brush and after shopping around (trying to find a cheaper alternative) I decided the dual ended one from Anastasia was actually the most inexpensive (the other option was to buy a spooly and brush separately). I’ve only used the brush twice but it is crazy how much a brush can effect the outcome of your brow!

The next 3 products I got were foundation samples. I am in a wedding next year that I have to do my own makeup for. Although I love doing makeup this is kind of a daunting task since I will be in lots of pictures. I really want to find a good, full coverage, long lasting foundation. So the sales associate at Sephora colour matched my skin and gave me three different samples. I got the Kat Von D Lock-it foundation, the Smashbox Studio Skin 15 hour wear foundation, and the Becca Ultimate Coverage complexion creme. I am going to be testing these out over the next little bit and will do a full blog post on my feelings towards each one. If you have any recommendations for a full coverage long lasting foundation PLEASE share!

That is all for now! I hope you enjoyed this post! It is a bit longer than I had anticipated so thank you if you took the time to read it all!

All About Nails: shellac fix and update

So if you read my previous post you know that my idea of using a regular nail polish and shellac top coat did not go as planned. However, here is how I tried to fix it.

I decided to try and file down the bubbles and bumps with a buffer and then use a shellac top coat to seal everything up. I’ve used this technique before after a manicure I got at a salon. I had gotten nail studs applied and they fell off a few days after my visit to the salon so I filed down the parts of my nail that were bumpy and applied a shellac top coat! This worked very well so I tried to do the same thing with my botched manicure.

Here is my nail after filing down the bubbles, you can still see some of the uneven texture but it is much better then it was before.
After buffing out most of the bumps I used a lint free towelette to wipe off the residue from th buffer. IMPORTANT NOTE: Do not use the alcohol cleaning solution on the nail polish, this seems to be when the bubbling occurs, so simply dust off the residue.

Next I applied the shellac top coat and cured it under the uv light for one minute. Apply the cleaning solution after curing to remove the tackiness and shine those babies up.

As you can see it is not perfect but it is much better then before.
Here’s the before shot

I’ve had the polish on for four days now and I did a lot of baking a cooking yesterday and the started to chip a little. It’s definitely not as good as professional but it is better then regular nail polish and I like that there is virtually no drying time, more to come in the full review.

Here’s what they look like on day four after being quite rough with them yesterday.
